Overview: It’s the end of the world as we know it. The Lost Winter was a live illustrative brief during my time at university for a dystopian novel by an author called Elizabeth Ryan as part of the Writing on The Wall Festival 2022. I was given sections of the unpublished novel and told to create a cover design and other illustrations based on my interpretation of the text. I then presented these ideas to the author with other students and was selected to be her chosen illustrator and create the final design and illustrations.
This was my first real project as an illustrator and inspired me to pursue more work in this area as it allowed me to combine design with the skills I developed during my time as a Fine Art student. It allows me to use a mixture of analogue and digital methods in my image-making process and develop my illustrative craft.
